Inner Smile Teaching Philosophy
Teresa's approach to teaching is strongly guided by the words, “meet the student where they are,” and “only teach from what you know, from your own personal practice.”
With this mindset, she pulls whatever is needed from her broad toolkit and applies it to the student as they are in that moment.
· "There are hundreds of paths up the mountain, all leading to the same place, so it doesn't matter which path you take. The only person wasting time is the one who runs around the mountain, telling everyone that his or her path is wrong." – Hindu proverb
Deeply rooted in the classical Hatha Yoga tradition, we seek to support every student in their quest to find their personal approach to Yoga. Public classes are limited to 8 students for a more intimate and effective learning experience. We strongly believe Yoga is accessible to everyone, regardless of physical limitation. In our small studio environment, there is a strong sense of community and shared learning. Beginners learn from more advanced students and more advanced students learn from beginners.
Every class is designed to be safe, challenging and engaging, regardless of your yoga experience. We give our students a strong foundation in proper alignment and reinforce the concept of “Beginner’s Mind.” Both are essential tools for understanding the energetic principles behind yoga and the “rajas” or “juice” available in a space without force or aggression.
“You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.”
~ Sharon Gannon
